Spring Bouquet - Floral oil painting
Spring's arrival is slow this year. It's trying very hard to make an appearance and you can almost feel it, the birds were singing and the squirrels were getting frisky. Tomorrow we are under a heavy snow warning. So close, but so far...
But there is spring in my house - I bought flowers this weekend and painted.

The Great Escape
I thought these two strawberries looked like they were making a break for it... but then I thought that maybe these strawberries are part of an escape from the day when we take the time to just sit back and indulge. Enjoy!

Sunkissed floral oil paintng
These little flowers seem to appear magically each year. Just "poof" and there they are. I love how they just surprise me.
I also love how the sun shines through them making them seem to glow. Of course they are not there right now - it is still winter here in MN but I'm certainly looking forward to their appearance.

Portrait of a Pear still life by Deb Kirkeeide
One wouldn't think a pear would bring out the drama queen in me. "Alas, I'm through as an artist, I cannot even paint a simple piece of fruit!" Big sigh.....
This one was painted while becoming re acquainted with my paints and I wrestled with it all the way. But it's all coming back and soon I'll be taking those training wheels off again!

Strawberries still life oil painting
Well, I hadn't planned to be away another week but a nasty bug had other plans. So I spent the week recouperating. Funny thing when you take time off to re-charge, re-group and re-coup - it feels like I need to re-learn how to paint. This can be very frustrating when you've been waiting this long to get back at it. But it's like riding a bike ....it is, isn't it?

A Bowl of Cherry Tomatoes, Still life oil painting
I'm back! Excited to get back to painting and inspired to push my art to new levels. Having just attended the CM Russell Art Auction in Great Falls, MT. My first time at an auction and it was exciting to watch. Last night especially, when the best of show went for $180,000. It sure is easy to get caught up in the excitement - luckily I didn't get too caught up and place a bid! I saw some fantastic art, discovered and met some really great artists and caught up with some good friends.

Stay tuned!
I've decided to take a short sabbatical from the blog in order to concentrate on pulling my marketing materials and efforts together.marketing, take a trip and visit with family. By short, I mean I will most likely be back regularly in about a week or so. It's funny how we sometimes put pressure on ourselves to perform to the point where we start to lose focus. (Okay, maybe it's just me) I realized that in order to get some important and key things done I needed to not spread myself so thin - so I gave myself permission to not post a new painting every day. Which is crazy that I had to allow myself to do that since there is only so much time in a day, especially when working full time and I need my sleep! But I will be back soon and inspired.
This painting is called "Waterdance" a little different than my usual paintings, but certainly a direction I would like to explore more. I painted this for my daughter a couple years ago. She is a marine biologist and has loved dolphins since she was small. I imagine the dolphins as her totem animals and see her spirit always dancing with the dolphins.
