"On The Ball" Raven Painting

On The Ball
11x14 Oil on Canvas
©2010 Deb Kirkeeide.

Another long gap in the action. (and here I thought I was back on track!) I've actually had three paintings in the works but not had the time each night to work on them. But lots going on and coming up. I have an art tour coming up in May and have been invited to participate in a show in April. And I'm working on some marketing pieces and ideas. And I wonder where my time goes....
This curious one was a lot of fun to paint. A bit more playful in nature with it's colors and texture.
fun to paint too! Used a palette knife on most of it.

Really wonderful color, Deb! Nice touch of iridescent purple on the wing. He looks great against that background color!

Sue - Thank you! You are right, I would enjoy all those guys who hang out near you. we don't get them here in the cities - up north and around the North Shore is where I see them. If you ever come across a raven feather I would love one!

Bonnie - thanks so much for your visit.

Dean - thank you. I do love the colors on this one, makes it really stand out.

DD - a wise man,he is, that Crocodile Dundee! Thanks for the words, artistic eye and sense of humor! Hope that arm heals soon so you can get back to it. In the meantime - starting painting left handed! The talent's still there it's just a matter of coordination.

I love this one - but then, I have liked every single one so far. I'll try and be a bit more original in my comment,s Deb, but since I know nothing of painting technique I can only talk knowledgeably about my reaction! I am curious about something, though. Do you draw first, or just go directly to paint?

Deb Kirkeeide said...

Deborah - I think that is the best response, to talk from how it makes you feel. I think that's the purpose of art.
And great question...
I typically go directly to paint, most are painted alla prima - all in one sitting.
Thanks!
