A Creek Runs Through It

This is a scene from a painting trip in Wyoming I took in 07. Everyone else was out in an open area nearby and 3 of us headed off into this grove of aspens. This was such a beautiful spot with the creek running through it. I could have stayed there all day if I weren't so nervous watching for bears! I could tell my two companions were used to bear country - Brent had his pistol with him. They happily painted away without a care, while I constantly kept looking over my shoulder for intruders. No bear, I'm happy to say - although they did make their presence known.

I don't think I could have painted this outdoors for as long as it took me. Large paintings elude me. I just can't get that same look as my little ones. I started this about 6 months ago and would stop and start and stop and start... I am officially calling it done.

Deb,
This is absolutely gorgeous! I know what you mean about the bears - here in Colorado I'm also always listening for mountain lions while working!

Oh yeah, cougars. I remember visiting some friends who lived in CO mountains and mentioned what a wonderful place for walking and hiking - she mentioned she was too scared because of the bear and cougars. She would make her husband come along with his pistol.

What a beautiful painting! And yes ... it is hard to paint while watching for bears! Glad to have found your blog! Very nicely done.

This is a beauty! It is every bit as fresh and lively as your smaller work. The color is luxurious.
So glad you weren't mauled.
