Let There Be Light - Winter Solstice

I drive by this area every morning on my way to work and have seen some spectacular sunrises over it. I thought it would make a good winter solstice painting and thought I would go there this morning to capture it. The light was flat this morning and if I had wanted to paint I would have had to plant my self on a snowbank by the road - so I did the next best thing and took a picture and came home to paint. I pretty much made up the lighting in this one. It's not the winter wonderland I remember from the other morning, but I do like it and it's abstract nature.

I'm happy to see Solstice and know the daylight will be getting longer. (can't you tell already?) And I tend think of it as the New Year, which in reality, being the solar new year and all, it is. So why isn't New Years today?

Happy Solstice! Enjoy the light!

Hi Deb,

I really love this one. Just gorgeous!
The winter solstice is nice, but seeing you
post this is even better. This one had to
feel really good to you. Did you whistle while
you painted? um, maybe it's that new Soul.
If we don't talk again, have a great Christmas
and a prosperous new year.

Did you have a Winter Solstice party complete with bonfire? I say we do that again next year when we are all together...wherever that may be. Perhaps up in a cabin surrounded by snow and mountains:) Another great painting. Love and miss you!

Thank you Doug! I am pretty happy with it. This one is very abstract when you are up close and personal, but when viewed from a distance it really comes together. I am always amazed by that phenomenon - which is reason to keep stepping away from the canvas - I tend to forget that!

Katie Bug! You have a blog ID! Will you start blogging soon? "The Life and Times of a Traveling Housewife and her little dog Mav?"
No Winter Solstice bonfire... but I did go to a party and got my fix of music and singing!
Love you, miss you too!

Jeffrey - thank you for stopping by and for your comment. It is always welcome and good to hear. I especially like your version of Winter Solstice today! (check it out everyone)

Chuck - truth be told, the photo was not very pretty, so most of this - the light, the color - is from my imagination.
Thank you for your wonderful comments!

To my Serene kindred spirit, Happy Winter Solstice! Such a lovely painting and I find the colour choices to be very soothing.

I agree this should be New Year's and to me it is. This is the day I look back at the past year and contemplate everything I've experienced, the good and the bad. I sit with that for awhile until the energy builds up in me to create and look forward to my tomorrows and then when I'm feeling it, I make those happen, my way!

Have a lovely night, Deb~to more light tomorrow!

We are definitely kindred spirits, Calli. I do the same, the creative energy usually goes a bit quiet for a while - we do need that period of rest and reflection don't we? Happy Solstice!

Wow, simply wonderful. Like a photograph is worth a thousand words, there are paintings that worth a thousand photographs. This is the perfect example.
How I envy you, who can create such gorgeous thing by your own hands. Thank you for posting it.
