Into the Woods

Into the Woods
6x8 Oil

Long time no see, eh? I just returned from a great vacation in beautiful Asheville, NC. Went on a whim
not knowing what was in store, but I have to say it was a good choice. The area is gorgeous with the Blue Ridge Mountains all around, heavily forested. This is a little painting I did from the front porch of my cottage - you would think i was in the middle of nowhere - but I was only about a mile from everything I could ever need. I didn't paint as much as I would have hoped but I did lots of exploring - of nature and of the great culture of the city. I crashed an art reception, went to several galleries, watched street musicians, went hiking, met some great people and had some fabulous meals (wouldn't be a vacation without them).
I'm getting the urge to tackle some new paintings but I have some projects to wrap up first and I'm hoping after this week I can dive into it again. In the meantime I thought I'd at least post this little one to prove I am still alive and kickin' and do kind of remember how to push paint around the canvas.

This is lovely! I love those darks and your brush strokes.

Asheville is fantastic! It is one of my favorite places to go. I've never painted there, but have painted from photos. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much!

Thanks Linda!
I actually found it hard to find a spot to pull over and paint - there's no shoulders on those roads! I'm going to have to paint from my photos too. I sure did like the city/area though.

All right! It's a beauty, sort of different for you. I like it very much. Sounds like you had a great vacation, it is pretty country. I don't think they know what shoulders on roads are down there. Dangerous just to stop and take a picture.

I'm so glad to see you painting again.
Hey, I forgot to tell you ... I injured my left shoulder and am having surgery on it tomorrow. Yippee. A matched set. Wish me luck.
Take care Deb,

Debbie,

This is such a peaceful piece!! And your composition and perspective draw me right in...I want to wander down that road, looking for adventure! Very beautiful! And so great that you were able to get away, and rejuvenate your spirit in such a lovely place! Very happy for you! ~Janine XO

Doug- sorry to hear about your surgery. What wild and crazy things are you doing to suffer all these injuries?? Extreme painting?
hope all went well and you are on the mend. no excuses for skipping the painting though - your painting arm is healed, right?
Take care!

sounds like you had the perfect vacation and in such a beautiful setting! i might not get anything at all productive accomplished there - just absorbing it all - wonderful to make my way over after such a while - it's so difficult when life gets in the way! ;)

and the next few weeks i'll be in and out even less as i'm relocating to another part of the country - almost packed - almost! so, see you again soon!

What a lovely painting... so filled with the magic of nature that I so love and cherish. You are such a gentle and talented artist, Deb. And you capture beauty from such a sensitive perspective. A lovely piece of artwork, truly. And it's good to know you enjoyed your vacation. May you always enjoy life... and beauty... and share the art you create so beautifully.

I really like this a lot, Deb!
I haven't been in that area, exactly, but the blue ridge mts are lovely. You showed the feel of the area well!
